Plain back Notes of 1854
Chattanooga branch
The Bank of East Tennessee opened the Chattanooga branch in the fall of
1854. The first officers of the Chattanooga branch were president, B.
Chandler and cashier, W. F. Ragsdale, 1854 - 1855. In 1855 J. A. Whiteside
was named president and B. Chandler became cashier. They served until
the branch was closed in 1857.
Wellstood, Benson & Hanks, New York printed these notes. The back of
the notes is plain. Signature combinations known on the 1854 issue of
the Chattanooga branch include: A. A Barnes and William M. Churchwell,
parent bank cashier and president 1855 - 1858 and, A. A. Barnes and Will
Swann, parent bank cashier and president 1854 - 1855.
